Nato in defence of peace: 2016 and beyond
Jan Havránek is the Defence Counsellor at the Czech delegation to NATO HQ in Brussels, where he was posted in April 2014. He previously served as the Assistant First Deputy Minister and Defence Policy Director of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic (2013 – 2014). Before that, he served as the deputy defence policy director and foreign policy advisor to the Czech Minister of Defence (2010 – 2013).
Mr. Havránek has been an active member of the transatlantic community. In 2013, Jan Havranek was named to the Diplomatic Courier’s annual list of the “Top 99 Under 33 Foreign Policy Leaders.” He also advised on the Defence Austerity V4 Project by Central European Policy Institute (CEPI) as a national expert (2012 – 2013), and served as the adjunct fellow at the Washington-based Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA, 2013 – 2014). His other earlier engagements included work for the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI, 2003 – 2006) and Association for International Affairs (AMO, 2002 – 2007).
Mr. Havránek received a master’s degree in international security studies and business relations at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (2009).
