Nato in defence of peace: 2016 and beyond
Maris Riekstiņš is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia (2007-2010) and a former Permanent Representative of the Republic of Latvia to NATO (2011-2015). Mr. Riekstiņš has begun his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia in 1992, where he held several posts, including the Undersecretary of State (1992-1993), the State Secretary (1993-2004) and the Ambassador to the United States of America (2004-2007). Professional activities of Mr. Riekstiņš have also included serving as the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia (2007) and the Head of the Latvian delegation for accession negotiations with NATO (2002-2004). Mr. Riekstiņš is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of University of Latvia (1993) and the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Latvian Sports Institute (1985).
