James Sherr
Associate Fellow, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House
James Sherr is an Associate Fellow of the Russia and Eurasia Programme of Chatham House (having been Head of Programme 2008-11), a Senior Associate Fellow of the Institute of Statecraft and a Visiting Fellow of the Razumkov Centre, Kyiv.Mr Sherr is the author of Hard Diplomacy and Soft Coercion:  Russia’s Influence Abroad (Chatham House, 2013). Other publications include The New East-West Discord: Russian Objectives, Western Interests. He currently advises Western governments  on the foreign, defence and security policy of the Russian Federation and has published widely in Russia and neighbouring countries.He is a frequent lecturer at the Royal College of Defence Studies, the NATO Defence College, the Harvard JFK School’s Black Sea and Russia Security Programmes, as well as the Lennart Meri Conference, the Riga and Bratislava Security Forums. He has worked closely with the International Centre for Defence and Security in Tallinn, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, the Institute of Eastern Studies (Warsaw), the Polish-Ukrainian Foundation  and the Center for US Ukrainian Relations. Mr Sherr resides in Oxford and is a member of the senior common rooms of Lincoln and St Antony’s colleges.
